375 : a New Four - Image Gravitational Lens System

چکیده
We have discovered a new gravitational lens in the Cosmic Lens All-Sky Survey. The lens B1555]375 is a four-image system with a maximum separation of VLA and MERLIN radio observations show 0A.42. these images in a characteristic quadruple-lens conÐguration. Optical imaging with the Keck II Telescope at R band shows a faint extended object. We estimate the combined emission from the lens and background source to be R\ 25 mag. Observations at H band with the William Herschel Telescope also detected this extended object. The combined lens and background source magnitude was measured to be H \ 19 mag. Presently, redshifts for both the lensing galaxy and background source are undetermined. We conclude that one or more of the following are true : the lens galaxy is sub-L *, it has z[ 0.5, or it is highly reddened. The observed MERLIN component positions and Ñux densities can be well described by a lens model based on a singular isothermal ellipsoid mass distribution. Our best-Ðt lens model has a reduced s2 of 2.6. High-resolution VLA radio observations should help to constrain the lens model further.

A New Quadruple Gravitational Lens System: CLASS B0128+437
High resolution MERLIN observations of a newly-discovered four-image gravitational lens system, B0128+437, are presented. The system was found after a careful reanalysis of the entire CLASS dataset. The MERLIN observations resolve four components in a characteristic quadruple-image configuration; the maximum image separation is 542 mas and the total flux density is 48 mJy at 5 GHz. A best-fit l...

We present a refined gravitational lens model of the four-image lens system B1608+656 based on new and improved observational constraints: (i) the three independent time-delays and flux-ratios from Very Large Array (VLA) observations, (ii) the radio-image positions from Very Large Baseline Array (VLBA) observations, (iii) the shape of the deconvolved Einstein Ring from optical and infrared Hubb...

We report the discovery of a new two-image gravitational lens candidate. The system RXJ0921+4529 contains two zs = 1.66 quasars separated by 6. 93 with an H band magnitude difference of ∆m = 1.39. The HST NIC2 H band images reveal an H=18.2 spiral galaxy between the quasar images, which is probably a member of a zl = 0.32 X-ray cluster centered on the field. We detect an extended source near th...

We present the results of a program to monitor the four-image gravitational lens B1608]656 with the VLA. The system was observed over a 7 month period from 1996 October to 1997 May. The 64 epochs of observation have an average spacing of 3.6 days. The light curves of the four images of the background source show that the Ñux density of the background source has varied at the D5% level. We measu...
